Are there any beauty blogs for 50-somethings? I’ve yet to find one, which should encourage you beauty junkies out there to prove me wrong and send me a link or get writing. Nonetheless, the web is crammed with beauty blogs for men and women, and while their writers have yet to reach their half-century, much of their subject matter is pertinent to us. Here are my top five:
‘Be beautiful, but be informed’ is the mission statement of this very professional blog by hair and make-up artist Ali Hazlewood. Honest product reviews, advice, giveaways and news on new make-up trends make this an informative read.
Did you know there was such a thing as guyliner? Neither did I, but you learn all sorts of useful things at this fabulous blog for men, which offers product reviews, grooming tips, competitions and a section called gentiquette, which pays homage to other facts of being a modern gentleman.
One of the best features of this heavily branded blog, written by a 30-year-old make-up obsessive, is a clickable, comprehensive, alphabetised list of brands (A is for Aveda, B is for Benefit, etc) and products (eyeliner, lip gloss) that lead you to well-written, unbiased reviews.
I love this content-heavy blog, which has well-written product reviews, features, breaking news (in beauty? That’s funny) and spa reports. The Beauty Pages , launched in 2008, brands itself as a webzine and has recently expanded its editorial team and redesigned its pages. It is classy, elegant and entertaining; no wonder it has more than 25,000 subscribers.
Skin Care For Men was runner-up in the Johnson & Johnson Beauty Journalism awards and could have been dreamed up by Lord Reith himself: it educates, entertains and informs, all with a beautifully appointed sense of humour. Men, if you need get rid of dark shadows under your eyes or check the out the best exfoliator, this professional blog is for you.
