SIMPLY HIGH 50 : Mick Hucknall at 56

Twenty-five years after the release of their biggest album, Stars, Mick Hucknall and Simply Red are embarking on a UK tour to celebrate its success.

“I have this abiding faith in the music and that will shine through when I’m dead and gone. I’m always trying to make music that will last a long time.  It’s always about the music,” says Mick Hucknall of Stars, that was the UK’s best-selling album for two years running.  “I could never have imagined that Stars would have the impact it did.”

Now 56, Mick will be hitting the road, from Birmingham to Cardiff and is delighted that he’s still pulling in new fans.  ‘We finished the last leg of the tour at the Olympic Stadium in Munich the other night and the band were all saying how fresh the whole thing felt, especially after over 100 shows in the past year around the world. It’s been great seeing so many smiling faces in the crowd. We’ve also noticed on this tour a lot more younger people coming to the shows. I guess some people are discovering our music for the first time  on Spotify and Youtube.’

High50 is offering a pair of tickets to the first person able to answer the question below.  The winning couple will be able to attend a concert of their choice – please see tour dates further down.

‘Rather than just play the same songs we’ve been playing for the last year, we are going to introduce a few songs that we haven’t played for a while, a few fan favourites,’ Mick promises
